BC Golf Course Reviews

Paul Robertson of Victoria, BC, Canada

Played on 2009-06-06 @ BLACK MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB located in Kelowna, BC, Canada

My wife and I played Black Mountain Golf Club and it was awesome! The Superintendent, Barry Skabar, has done a perfect job of grow-in and establishment and the course was immaculate, challenging and a thrill to play. In addition to the great golf course, the food and beverage service under the direction of Tony Fatica assisted by great staff was outstanding.

Best total golf experience possible 10 out of 10! Congratulations to Barry, Tony and staff! Thank you for providing the highlight of my golfing vacation.

Oh my where do I begin? Pointing no fault towards the very helpful pro shop staff, friendly marshals, great starter and sweetheart of a cart girl (Jen) the dissapointments begin almost immediately at a ridiculously designed course. Quite possible the worst of all the resort courses I have ever played globally. The greens are a ridiculous array of swales, valleys and plateaus making fair pin placements impossible.
The bunkers are completely out of character for this type of course with fescue grass lining the perimeter of each bunker, truly meant to grace a seaside or links design. They have even managed to complicate the simplest aspect of golf with the tee markers all looking identical except for a barely visible color coding on the logo on each marker. Aniticipate loosing a dozen balls easily (I am a 5 handicap and did). The elevation changes are so severe and sublime that the concrete paths have speed bumps on them.

Out today for a quick walk before dark. I'm been a member now for 2 years and use the course a lot.

Only 7 minutes from home and very seldom have to book a time.
Greens usually in good shape( 2 with snow on them today). The water ponds offer great opportunity to get over any water fears. As well as a number of sand traps to help give you a little practice.

Members have access to bbq's which we used a lot as well as a pool for a quick dip after a game. Or even a fishing pond to try the fly rod out in.
It's just an all round great place to head to.

What an incredible course. Nothing like in Canada I would say. Challenging, beautiful, well maintained. Will be going back.

Would not play at this course again
Greens and generally grounds in terrible condition - Green chewed up, tee boxes are a mess, no one replaces divots, need a 4x4 for cart paths.
Overpriced, 3 out of 4 golf bags fell off cart, this resulted in one of our foursomes new driver breaking, Course marshall is a little over zealous, finished course in about 4.25/4.5 hours, he kept telling us we were jamming up, people behind us delayed our game as they kept hitting off our fairway when we were trying to tee off. Also on first hole they were teeing off when we were on second shot. Staff could care less about customer service

Testimonials from Our Satisfied Golf Clients

Posted by Andy & Gloria Schwabe on Dec'30, 2009
Thanks for arranging a great Okanagan golf trip. Everything went completely smooth, no glitches with anything, including the weather. Of the 9 courses played, our favourite 3 had to be Tobiano, Predator Ridge and Tower Ranch with Gallaghers Canyon, Okanagan Quail and the Rise just behind them. Sun Rivers was mostly interesting but had a few contrived holes that were quite easy to lose a ball on even after a good shot down the middle. Black Mountain was interesting but felt a bit jammed into too small an area. The Dunes was fun but not as interesting as some of the mountain courses. Thanks again for the great arrangements, we'll certainly use you again for our next trip to the west.

Hi Ross,

Had time to digest the Kamloops trip. I would like to start off by saying thank you for the excellent organization on your part. The Ramada personnel and service were great. No problems of any sort and they were very accommodating at breakfast time.

The 3 golf courses (Rivershore, Sunrivers and Dunes) had all the carts and names printed..... that was very classy!! Also the personnel at all the courses were very friendly and polite!!

By the way, we got very lucky with the weather .. just got a little wet on Tuesday but all in all very fortunate.

Thanks again and it was a pleasure doing business with you. John Nakamoto

Ross,
Just wanted to thank you for putting the golf trip together. We just returned last night and all 4 of us had great time.

Predator Ridge was the hi-lite as the golf and the accommodations were 1st class. We already discussed coming back next year when the Ridge course opens.

I strongly recommend paying the extra $$ and staying at Predator Resort. The golf course was perfect for a low handicapper as well as high one.The practice facilities, the food, and the staff were as good as I've seen, even the unpredictable weather was only a minor
inconvenience and it gave us an excuse to check out the Fitness Ctr after the round, which was a bonus.

The Rise was an interesting course, with incredible views but I don't think I would play it again as there were too many blind shots and strange holes. The last 4 holes were my favorite, even though I incurred a couple of penalty strokes. I'd only recommend it to low handicappers and short straight hitters. The staff & treatment was excellent.

Kelowna Springs was ok and it was nice to play an easier course on the last day. Thanks again Rick & the guys

Good morning Ross. Just a short note to inform you that the package you provided to the seven golfers from the lower mainland was a great success.

Everything went smoothly, without a hitch. We enjoyed a sunny round of golf at Tobiano. The wind got up for the last four holes and cooled it off, but nothing compared to what it might have been.

Wednesday was cooler and rainy in Kamloops, but the sun came out when we arrived at Talking Rock. Played the entire round without one drop of rain. All the golfers enjoyed that course, commenting that it was more \'player friendly\' than Tobiano, and held much different but very beautiful scenery. Eagle Point did not disappoint on Thursday morning, and they all left having enjoyed their trip into the interior.

Thanks again. Bill Brown
